Minamino Breaks Goal Record at Monaco

At the age of 21, Japanese forward Koki Minamino has become the youngest player to score in Ligue 1 for Monaco.

On Tuesday night, the 6ft 5in forward scored his first goal for Monaco against FC Nantes, breaking the record set by former teammate and now PSG striker Kylian Mbappe last season.

"I'm very happy," said Minamino after scoring. "It's my first goal for the club and I couldn't be happier."

The goal came from a header, with Minamino controlling a long ball down the right wing before firing home from a tight angle.

"It was a bit of luck," he added. "I tried to make a run into the box but it wasn't enough to get the shot on target. But when you're running so fast, sometimes things just happen."

Minamino is already making a big impression on the French top-flight, and his goal against Nantes was just the start of what could be a memorable season for the young forward.

He has impressed since joining Monaco from Vissel Kobe in January, and has been part of the side that have climbed up the table this season.

With his goal, Minamino has also broken the record for the youngest player to score in Ligue 1 history.

And with only 24 games left in the season, there is still plenty of time for him to continue his impressive form and help Monaco challenge for a place in Europe next term.
